1-on-1 & 2-on-1 DJ lessons · Auckland
Four sessions over four weeks. Hands on the gear from minute one. Taught by a professional DJ who still gigs.
You'll learn on a Pioneer XDJ-AZ controller — widely regarded as the closest thing to a club setup outside the booth. Its layout mirrors the Pioneer CDJ-3000 decks and DJM-A9 mixer — the industry standard at clubs and festivals worldwide. What you learn here translates directly to the booth.
Why it works
Group DJ lessons mean most of your time watching someone else play. Every session here is 1-on-1 or 2-on-1 — you're on the gear the entire time.
No slides, no preamble. You'll load your first track in the first ten minutes. Learning happens by doing.
One-on-one means I can push harder when you're flying, and slow down where you need it — without anyone else waiting.
The XDJ-AZ mirrors CDJ-3000s and an A9 mixer. You won't have to relearn anything when you step into a real booth.
Everything I teach comes from what actually works at real gigs — track selection, reading a room, recovering from mistakes.
About
From the Reactivate Trance and Techno days of the '90s to deep progressive house and trance, Modu (Andy) found a love for electronic music early and continues to enjoy and pursue his passion for DJing.
Nowadays Modu plays a mix of Organic House, Techno, Downtempo and Hypnotic Ethnotronica. You'll find him on the festival circuit and occasionally in clubs.
As a DJ instructor, he believes he can get anyone from beginner to DJing live events in just four sessions.
4-session course
Each session builds on the last. One hour, once a week, four weeks — enough to get you mixing confidently and understanding what you need to work on next.
Tour the XDJ-AZ, understand how the signal flows from deck to speakers, set your gain correctly, and load and play your first tracks. No experience needed.
Match BPMs by ear using the pitch fader and jogwheel — no sync button. Then make your first real transition: a clean blend from one track to the next.
Once you've mastered the basics of transitioning between songs, we'll look at other important functions like looping, effects, hot cues, etc.
Music choice is half the job. We cover building a set, reading a room, and putting everything together — then you play a full set, ready for your first live event.
Pricing
Two lesson formats — both fully hands-on — plus practice time once you've finished. The 2-on-1 option suits friends who want to learn together and keep costs down.
